Sheraton Schiphol Airport review: Couldn’t see the airplanes, but at least I slept well
The following is a full review of my experience at the Sheraton Amsterdam airport (AMS). Your courage to seek out (and read) a detailed review of what is essentially a run of the mill airport hotel will be rewarded. I’ll do my best to keep it entertaining.
For those of you who are having second thoughts about how you’ve chosen to spend the next 5 minutes of your life, the TLDR is this: it’s a good hotel in a good location. The beds are cootie-free and there’s a very low chance of getting murdered in your sleep. Go for it!
A full review of my one night stay at the Sheraton Hotel Amsterdam Schiphol Airport
There are a lot of good hotels located adjacent to Schiphol Airport. I chose the Sheraton for the simple fact that it looked to be the closest.
Location
The Sheraton AMS is located directly across from Terminal 2. It is attached to the airport via a covered walkway, and you won’t have to walk far (it’ll take about 10 minutes).
Getting to it from the outside is very fast and easy as well. Just follow the signs. Good luck avoiding speeding taxis and buses.

The lobby (and checking in)
Finding the lobby when coming from inside the airport will be easy. The walkway leading you to the main entrance is the same level that the lobby is in.
Coming from the outside? Take the elevator to level 3. The kicker is that it won’t be obvious that you’re on the lobby level until you walk around to the backside of the elevators. It’s a confusing maze inside.

Checking in was fast and easy. I highly recommend checking in via the Marriott Bonvoy app though. It’ll be a lot faster, as you can skip the line altogether.

Restaurants
The main restaurant is located on the lobby level. It looked good, but I didn’t try it due to the fact that there are a wide variety of shops and restaurants located over in the terminal building that are within easy walking distance.

Getting to my room
Those of you who are even the slightest bit afraid of heights probably aren’t going to like the glass elevator. I personally don’t think it’s anywhere near as scary as the elevator in the Frankfurt Airport Hilton, but it’s a doozy nonetheless.

Room overview
I paid extra for a high-floor airport facing room. All I’m going to say is this: the room was a lot nicer than the view (which I’ll show you in a moment).

The view
I loves me a hotel room with a good view of a busy airport. That’s exactly what I got here that the AMS Sheraton. The problem is that the hotel is so far away from the terminals (and the runways) that it makes plane spotting difficult. I guess you can kinda see the airplanes. Sort of.

The good news is that some rooms have better views of the airport (and airplanes) than others. I stayed at this hotel again two days later, and here’s the view that I had from my room in the other wing:

The bathroom
Fun fact: I wrote this review approximately six weeks after my stay. I didn’t have easy access to the pictures of the bathroom as I was writing it, and you know what? I couldn’t even remember what the damn thing looked liked.
It was forgettable – but at least it wasn’t terrible (because otherwise I would’ve remembered it).

Pros and cons
The Sheraton at Schiphol Airport is a pretty good airport hotel. It’s not amazing, but it’s a lot nicer than many others that I’ve stayed in (especially the Sheraton at the Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris).
Pros
- Very conveniently located. Best of all, you’re not going to have to go outside to reach it.
- It’s an extremely quiet property. You’re not going to be kept up all night by the sound of airplanes taking off and landing.
- Everything is very clean and well-maintained. It looks like a brand new build (even though it’s not).
Cons
- The views of the terminals and runways from the airport facing rooms are just okay. I’ve had better.
- The lobby, lounges, and restaurants are all on separate levels (and it’s not all that easy to move between them).
